The train designed and constructed by company Siemens AG, will ply on lines Moscow-St.-Petersburg and Moscow-Nizhni Novgorod. At speed of movement from 250 to 350 kilometers per hour, it will overcome distance between capitals of all for 3 hours of 45 minutes. The train has received the name in honour of one of the fastest birds in the world – the steppe falcon сапсана.The first flight of "Sapsan" between two capitals will take place in August, 2009. Ticket price will be comparable to the ticket price aboard the plane. According to the contract on delivery of high-speed trains signed by Open Society of the Russian Railway and Siemens AG on May, 18th, 2006, it will be bought seven more electric trains of this class. Siemens will provide maintenance service of these trains within 30 years. Each electric train in length of 250 metres will consist of 10 cars and will provide with places more than 604 passengers.
